Braving a rather uncomfortable drizzly morning, nine Ramblers and one friend set off for a leisurely 4 mile walk round the western outskirts of Tetbury. Starting from the Tetbury Goods Shed at the Old Station yard, we headed in a South Westerly direction, crossing the main road at Wiltshire Bridge and out into the fields. Looping round to another main road, the Bath Road, above Bath Bridge, we headed towards Cutwell where the ford was swollen and running fast. Heading off the road again we were confronted by a gorilla – luckily not a live one! Having negotiated some tricky steps onto a back road we headed up Green Lane. Cutting down through the fields, with good views to the Parish Church, and across the river we came to Chavenage Lane. Going through recreation ground we passed St Saviours Church and the old primary school, now houses, and along a back lane to St Mary’s Church, then back down the hill to the start point. We all got warm and dry over very welcome drinks and a snack at the Whistle Stop Café before heading home.
