A group of 23 Ramblers set off from the village hall at Ampney Crucis, for a four-mile walk. The weather was bright and fresh – perfect for walking!!!
The group climbed a roadside stile to join a grassy path to visit a friendly herd of alpacas. From there they walked down the village street via Hunters Hill to the Pound tree. Taking a wet track - past some new houses - they soon reached the lane at the top of Ashsteeple Hill. Turning south-east they walked past the old farm towards Hilcot End. At the junction the group turned south and used the lanes to Ampney St Mary, during which time a drinks break was taken at Farthing Cottage. On reaching the quiet village they took a leaf covered path towards Ampney St Peter. The walkers used a bridge over a small stream before joining a nice sandy path around the horse paddocks. The Ramblers then visited the picturesque village with its gold painted post box. Afterwards they went up past the Old Rectory, and along a muddy path back to the lane. On reaching Ampney Crucis again the group went down a green lane to join a diagonal path to School Lane. Crossing the lane, they went back across fields to the first stile, then returned to the village hall for a lunch and their 50th AGM.
