The noise from the busy A436 quickly vanished when we left the lay-by at Seven Springs and walked towards Coberley. As we passed the market cross at Coberley one of the seven ramblers in the group felt that we were taking the wrong turn because we were heading towards Upper Coberley rather than Cockleford where the Green Dragon Inn was to be found. There was some debate whether a detour could facilitate the provision of good coffee and cake but it was decided to continue on the planned route. We enjoyed the views over the Churn valley as we walked from Upper Coberley towards Colesbourne. We crossed the A435 at Penhill farm and followed Churn Bank to Lower Cockleford where we stopped for lunch. Two walkers came by and stopped for a chat, ramblers from the Cheltenham group on their way to the Green Dragon Inn! The group resolved that either Charles or Hans would devise a walk in the very near future which would include a stopover at that pub. We enjoyed lovely views as we closed the loop at Upper Coberley. Before returning to Seven Springs we visited the historic church in Coberley which stands in an unusual setting of farm buildings and walled gardens.
