From Avening, 8 ramblers set off up Steps Lane through the Gatcombe Estate on a cloudy but dry day. We were rewarded with fabulous views, and lucky enough to see Suffolk Punch horses and White Park cattle with new calves. We then turned back across a field with frolicking young Highland cattle, to enter Minchinhampton Golf Course. After a coffee stop we continued past Nags Head to follow a track through Nags Head woods. At the top we crossed several fields to emerge on Star Lane which we followed back into Avening. After the walk some of us tucked into superb 2 in 1 pies at the Weighbridge Inn.
