By the time 5 Ramblers set out on a mid-week 4 mile walk the heavy rain of the early morning had passed and the sun had come out.  However owing to the rain of the previous few days some fields were flooded and the towpaths under the road bridges were impassable.  Hence the walk had to be shortened and adjusted slightly, luckily without spoiling a leisurely and enjoyable walk.  We headed along the Spine Road from the Gateway Centre before turning past one of the lakes and down to a road into South Cerney.  The walk took us along a quiet lane by the River Churn where you wouldn’t realise you were so close to the centre of the village.  Turning towards the Church we had to stop to let a funeral procession go ahead of us, led by two black horses displaying pink plumes in their manes.  Once the mourners had entered the church we were able to continue the walk past the church back to the river.    The walk then took us along the road where we followed the Thames and Severn Canal towpath returning to the start and coffee at the local café.
