Cirencester Ramblers

12 Members and one guest came on the 5 mile walk from Coln Rogers Church car park, on a warm but mainly cloudy day. After leaving the car park we turned left and walked down to the bridge over the River Coln passing some very nice houses all in keeping with the village. We carried on down the lane to Winson, passing a Mill House with a lovely garden where the river runs through. Winson has many lovely properties with great gardens to look at, taking a left in the village we took the public footpath down a path over a bridge of the River Coln, following the path through to a gate and up the hillside to a large field with many cows and calves running across to the other side, with also a few young horses that came to see us. Once out of the field we turned left and walked along the top of Ablington Downs, then going down to go through a gate which took us along the bottom leading to the next valley. We gradually climbed and once near the top we sat on the hillside and ate our lunch. Afterwards we walked to the road and taking a left we carried on down the road until we could turn left into Salt Lane, (many posh cars had passed us, going to a rally we thought).  We walked along Salt Lane until we came to a barn, turning right at the barn took us to the village of Calcot, crossing over the road down a quite steep hill (no through road) to a field on the left which we crossed to our only stile and along a path by the River Coln once more and back to the church car park.
