Cirencester Ramblers

On a beautiful warm and sunny spring day, 11 Ramblers and 1 guest set out from the Old Lodge Inn. Turning south, we crossed to the edge of Minchinhampton Common then descended on steep lanes and footpaths to the bottom of the valley, passing views of St Mary’s Church, Inchbrook, Windsoredge and Forest Green. On reaching Dunkirk Mills we followed the cycle track into Nailsworth.

Next we ascended Shipton’s Grave Lane through woods and fields where we had a coffee break with a view of ‘The W’ on the opposite hill. We continued to the top of the hill, then across flat fields with spectacular views across to Gatcombe and Minchinhampton.

After lunch enjoying the view at the top, we descended through fields to reach the road near Longfords Mill, then continued uphill to Box and back across the common, where most of us enjoyed a delicious Winstone’s ice cream.
