Cirencester Ramblers

On Sunday 11th August 2024, a small group of 8 members and 1 guest (membership application pending!) did a 7 mile walk between Sharpness and Berkeley. The walk started in overcast and humid weather, but at around lunchtime, the skies cleared to become sunny and hot.

The walk started at the Sharpness picnic site, and after passing through the town of Sharpness, we followed footpaths and some road walking to Berkeley church, passing Edward Jenner’s home.

After a lunch stop at Berkeley church, where we enjoyed a glimpse of Berkeley Castle, we walked out of the town to follow Berkeley Pill. This proved to be a very difficult stretch of about 1 mile with very overgrown vegetation including brambles, and uneven ground.

Thankfully, when we reached the River Severn, the going was much easier, and we were afforded extensive views of the Severn as far as the Severn crossings, and across to the Forest of Dean.

The walk finished at the start point at Sharpness picnic site.
