On a damp morning 6 members set off from the Hare and Hounds at Westonbirt for a 4.5 mile leisurely walk (although some of the stiles were quite taxing). We cut across in front of Westonbirt School, getting a good view of the school at one point. Most of the fields were pastureland with almost all being used to graze horses. We passed through Westonbirt village and headed almost parallel to the main road to the public footpath entrance into Silver Wood in the Arboretum. Other than meeting another walking group heading the opposite way, the Arboretum was almost completely deserted. Stopping for a quick refreshment stop, we enjoyed the beautiful shapes and range of colours of the trees. Taking the permissive path at the far end we then headed back to the Hotel continuing along the Monarch’s Way which ran just behind the Arboretum. We were very glad to get back without getting soaked and ready for a bite to eat.
