Thirteen of us set off with looming grey clouds and quite blustery winds from Tetbury Goods Shed…up the 1in 4 hill famous for the wool sack races, then soon out into the countryside, with dried up river beds and grown up lambs. We stopped for a drink on Wormwell Lane, an old tree lined green lane now, which many a past traveller has enjoyed .
After walking through a dairy farm, we passed Westonbirt school and village. We relaxed in the wild flower meadows of Westonbirt Arboretum for lunch.
Our return route was via the Monarch’s Way, which took us past grazing horses and large houses, though Highgrove was well hidden from view by established trees.
Afterwards, we enjoyed drinks and cake in The Whistle Stop cafe at the Goods Shed.
