Cirencester Ramblers

23rd July Painswick

4 ramblers went on a 9 mile circular walk from Painswick from the Ramblers Best Walks Britain book. In the car park we met two Cheltenham ramblers who we invited to join us.  We walked south through Sheephouse, crossing over the main road into the village of Pitchcombe. A short walk up hill led us to woods where we had a coffee stop providing far reaching views across the valley. The walk continued north through Edge Nature Reserve and along a quiet minor road to the Wysis Way. Lunch was taken looking out over the Severn Valley and Gloucester. It was then a short walk up to Painswick Beacon and clear views all round. On returning on the Cotswold Way back into Painswick we were fortunate to be invited by some other visitors to see rare small blue butterflies, which delayed us enough to get caught by the rain at the end of the walk.
