Cirencester Ramblers

June 11th Goodrich Castle

On Sunday 11th June 23 members set off from Cirencester to travel to Goodrich Castle a beautiful ruined medieval castle in Herefordshire. They arrived to a few spots of rain, which soon disappeared to reveal a beautiful sunny day. Setting off from the castle, they walked down to the River Wye passing the ancient Flanesford Priory. Passing Kerne Bridge they followed the Wye Valley Walk stopping for coffee on the way to Welsh Bicknor.

Here the group divided with 11 members choosing a six mile option and climbing up and over Coppett Hill. At the top of the hill they paused for lunch before returning to the Castle. The group opting for a longer 9 mile walk continued along the river to Symonds Yat Rock before taking a slow steady climb over Coppet Hill to start.
