Cirencester Ramblers

January 22nd Withington

On a beautiful frosty and sunny morning 16 Cirencester Ramblers left the Mill Inn Car Park at Withington for an 8 mile walk. They walked up the road and turned onto a path which led them up through two large fields on the hillside to enter Withington Woods at the far end. Then making their way through the woods eventually coming to a 4 way clearing, they took a right turn and straight on all the way to a lane at Hill Barn. They continued straight onto another lane where they took a left turn and soon turned right along the top to Upcote plantation.

Here a coffee/lunch break was taken with fine views over towards Andoversford even though it had clouded over. The route then took them further along the top on the other side of the plantation to a long track which led down to the little hamlet of Foxcote: a short stop was taken and the sun came back out. They made their way up the hillside to Thorndale Farm and along the field edge to Upcote Farm where 3 beautiful peacocks were spotted in a barn. A fairly straight path took them up the field and back into Withington Village to the cars. Everyone said what a lovely walk it was and having the sun most of the day made it a very pleasurable.
