Cirencester Ramblers

August 29th Upper Churn Valley

On Monday 29 August 2016, 23 Ramblers, including one newly registered member enjoyed a six mile walk from Seven Springs near Cheltenham. Starting from the layby opposite the Hungry Horse Inn, the walkers followed a footpath to Coberley, arriving at the village close by the school and the war memorial. Further pleasant footpaths across fields took the group on to Cowley, passing the Cotswold Alpaca Farm en route.

After taking a moment to admire the opulent and attractive Cowley Manor Hotel, the group followed a quiet country lane past the Gloucestershire Girlguiding Site and the Green Dragon Inn to Cockleford . From there, a further lane and a footpath through woodland led the walkers to Cockleford Mill, a building in a charming setting with attractive gardens.

After crossing the busy A435 road the group climbed the hill to Westfield Farm, where they paused for coffee, before proceeding to Upper Coberley by a bridleway offering extensive and uninterrupted views across the Gloucestershire countryside. It was a beautiful day with almost cloudless blue skies and the fields of ripe cereal crops looked amazing in the sunshine.

From there the ramblers returned to Seven Springs by a descent along the Gloucestershire Way past New Farm.
